Janice's Newsletter : Billy (Little Red Arrow) Batson

Hi Reader

For those who are here for my Billy Batson Fan Fic, here's the next chapter in my Itty Bitty Billy Alternate Universe. Billy Batson is Captain Marvel and oh so adorable. With his secret identity revealed to Green Arrow and Black Canary, Ollie's taken him in as his protege.

A big thank you to Kenandeliza for her drawing of Billy as Little Red Arrow

Billy (Little Red Arrow) Batson

Perched on the rooftop overlooking Celestial Gems, Green Arrow notched an arrow; waiting like a leopard stalking its prey. The burglar dropped out of the window and into the alleyway, clutching a sack. The archer’s intel was spot on. This was the night the elusive jewel thief, known as “The Phantom”, would strike.

Ollie released the trick arrow, catching the thief in the expanding net.

Too easy, he frowned as he landed before his prey.

As he retrieved the stolen goods, five thugs emerged from the shadows, surrounding him. With Black Canary away, backup wasn’t an option. His intel said The Phantom worked alone. So these thugs were probably waiting for Phantom to crack the uncrackable safe. After which they would relieve him of the jewels.

The leader raised his hand.

“Hand over the loot, hero.”

Raising an eyebrow, Oliver stalked to the thug; Clutching the sack with one hand while raising the other in a placating manner.

The leader held out his hand expectantly,

Putting on an innocent smile (Billy’s influence, really), Ollie swung the jewel laden bag, hitting the hoodlum’s head.

Knocking him out.

The other four burst into action.

A roundhouse kick sent the first brute flying.

“Grab him,” yelled the tall guy wielding a knife.

A bald muscleman charged.

His buddy showed off fancy moves with escrima sticks.

Ollie flipped baldy, smack into the show off, knocking them both out.

“Kill him,” yelled the remaining thug.

A gun cocked.

Ollie grabbed the tall guy, using him as a human shield when the gun went off.

“Aargh!”

The bullet struck the crook’s shoulder.

Two more gunmen emerged from the shadows.

Ollie scanned the buildings around him, spotting several more goons.

A pair of red arrows whizzed past: the first hit a gunman, the other missed his partner by a hand’s breadth.

A red boxing glove arrow corrected that mistake, taking down that mobster.

Snack-sized backup’s here, Ollie chuckled as he fired three arrows in one go, taking down a trio of hoodlums.

Another red arrow struck down a goon while Ollie fired three more to take down the rest of the gang.

Thwack!

A final red arrow, this one tipped with a grappling hook, embedded itself into the wall behind Green Arrow.

“Geronimo!” Squealed a tiny tot as he slid down the rope with the bow for balance and support, executing a perfect landing at Ollie’s feet.

“Heya Ollie,” piped itty bitty Billy. He was dressed in the Little Red Arrow playsuit Ollie had customised for him. He took his new self-proclaimed hero persona seriously.

Neither Oliver nor Dinah could figure out why.

That munchkin, just happened to be Captain Marvel : one of Justice League’s heaviest hitters. Why would he run around as a squishy little vigilante archer when he could fly about as an invulnerable Herculean powerhouse?

“Can you teach me that three arrow trick?” Tiny Billy craned his neck, looking up at Ollie with big dewy eyes. “Pretty please? After all, I saved your life.”

“Well,” Ollie chuckled. “If you put it that way.”

Cameras flashed.

“Holy Moley!”

The teeny-weeny little boy gaped like a deer caught in headlights.

Reporters crowded around them, thrusting microphones in both their faces.

“I’m Red Arrow,” the precocious child beamed in response to their questions. “Green Arrow’s new sidekick!” He thrust his little chest and rested his hands on his hips, like the mini-Marvel he really was.

“Billy, I’d like to have a word with you,” Sterling Morris, Billy’s boss stepped into the studio.

“Sure, Mister Morris,” Billy followed the man to his office. Splashed across the fatherly man’s desk were pages from Star City’s newspapers; all of which featured Green Arrow and his new sidekick, Red Arrow.

“Tell me what you were thinking, Billy,” the older man pointed at a close-up shot of Red Arrow. “Why were you in Star City, chasing known murderers, while dressed in a playsuit?”

“Mister Morris,” Billy pouted. “What makes that think it’s me?”

“Do you think I can’t recognise my star reporter? Your entire face is exposed. Your body language is a dead giveaway.” He sighed. “And Holy Moley?”

“Oh,” Billy frowned. “But I’m wearing a mask.”

Sterling Morris closed his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He does that a lot these days.

“Those pyjamas don’t protect you at all. You could have been killed!”

“I’ll be okay. I’ll get you an exclusive next time,” Billy promised. Maybe that would put his boss at ease.

Mister Morris knelt before Billy and held the boy’s shoulders. “Son, your life is more important than the story.”

“I can take care of myself,” Billy protested. “And that is a uniform, not pyjamas. Green Arrow gave it to me himself after I graduated from Arrow training.”

“Your dad may be invulnerable, but you are not your dad,” Mister Morris held the boy’s gaze.

Oh yeah, Mister Morris thinks Captain Marvel is his dad. The older man gave Cap a long lecture that a trench-coat and hat were a lousy excuse of a disguise. That was when Billy showed up as Cap, pretending to be his own dad, in order to sign the consent forms.

“I have my ways,” Billy grinned. He wasn’t letting his boss in on his other secret identity. Not even Batman could figure that out.

Mister Morris sighed again. “I know you do.” He opened a drawer and pulled out a red suit with gold accents. “I had my tech guys create a proper Red Arrow costume.” He handed the suit to Billy. “Wear this.”

It fitted like a glove and looked way cooler than his Red Arrow uniform. It even had a fancy hat like Green Arrow’s.

“It’s bullet proof and heat proof. It’s insulated from cold, just in case for some unknown reason, you have to hide in a freezer,” the father figure rolled his eyes.

“Taser gloves. Mask that actually hides your eyes with white lenses that can record evidence if needed,” his boss ran through the list of features. “From now on, you will be working undercover when you assume the identity of Red Arrow. All Whiz rules apply.”

“Yes, sir!” Billy saluted his mentor and boss. Whiz rules meant wearing full Whiz armour or assigned Whiz protective gear at all times. In this case, it meant wearing the uniform Whiz created from him instead of the soft cotton outfit from Ollie. His old Red Arrow costume was comfier than the softest pyjamas he’d ever owned so he’d just sleep in Ollie’s gift going forward.

Captain Marvel’s Justice League Communicator went off. Cap’s needed. There’s a rampaging creature in Star City that’s a planet level threat.

Billy ran up the fire escape.

“Shazam!”

Lightning struck, transforming the boy into the Big Red Cheese.

Mid-flight, Ollie’s voice came through the line to all responding members of the Justice League. “Creature stole Black Canary’s cry. All heroes with powers stay out of Star City. You’d only make the monster more powerful.”

“Superman, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, Flash, stand down,” Batman ordered. “No one is allowed into Star City except Team Arrow and the Bat Family.”

Although Cap didn’t have Superman’s telescopic vision, his eyes were keen enough to see Green Arrow and Black Canary battle the monster. While the creature seemed immune to most attacks, one of Ollie’s explosive arrows cause it to stumble. That gave him an idea.

A quick detour to Arrow Cave and Captain Marvel found the ammunition Billy would need. He loaded the Arrow Plane, changed back to Billy in Whiz Red Arrow suit, and then flew the plane to the battlefield.

Batman, Nightwing, Robin, Green Arrow and Black Canary worked together to evacuate the city while Bat drones and Arrow drones struck the giant.

The creature swatted the drones away as if they were flies, even as it ploughed through Star City.

“Everybody, clear the way!” Billy yelled through the plane’s loudspeaker, hoping the heroes would hear him through the din.

Looking down, he could see Green Arrow, Black Canary and the Bat Family, working in tandem to the evacuate everyone. He had one clear shot.

“Say cheese,” yelled the Little Red Cheese, dressed as Red Arrow as he yanked the lever.

Kaboom!

The entire load of explosives landed smack on the head of the big, bad seemingly indestructible monster.

When the smoke cleared, the creature lay unmoving on the ground. A pair of drones circled it. The monster didn’t respond.

Little Red Arrow Billy hopped out of the aircraft and ran into Black Canary’s arms. “I’m so glad you are okay,” Billy sobbed in relief. Ollie joined the hug, rubbing Billy’s back, soothing the child.

“Love your new look,” Dinah held Billy up and examined him.

“Mister Morris had it made just for me,” he grinned. “Full Whiz tech built in. Better than the Bat tech.”

“Queen Tech is better than Bat Tech or Whiz Tech,” Ollie looked offended.

“Nope. Don’t think so,” Billy chortled. Since Ollie had Billy running around in cotton pyjamas thinking that was Arrow gear, the bearded blonde deserved it. “This suit is way better.”

“Young man,” Ollie folded his arms in mock indignation. “I’ll show you real armour,” he tickled the wriggly, squealing boy.

Green Lanterns Hal and John landed beside the fallen monster.

“You’re late,” Batman grunted.

“Sorry. Busy in Oa,” Hal replied. “He’s wanted in six galaxies. We’ll take him in custody.”

John enclosed the monster in a green bubble and the pair zipped off into space with their prisoner.

“Well, that’s that,” Green Arrow dusted his hands. “Who wants ice cream?”

Batman watched the trio waltz away.

He was not jealous.

No, Batman never gets jealous.

He’d seen the first photos of Red Arrow and knew immediately who Ollie’s new sidekick was :

Billy BAT SON.

Why was Billy behaving like he’s the son of Oliver and Dinah?

Bruce had the adoption papers ready and waiting for Billy’s signature.

All had been going well until Talia’s interference and Bruce’s coma.

While he was down, Queen moved in and stole his protege from under his nose.

This will not do.

Yours Sincerely

Janice

Janice's Ebook Giveaway Sweetcorn Suzie by Janice Wee When I first conceptualised Sweetcorn Suzie, I wanted to do something comedic like Mr. Bean. Mr. Bean was named after a vegetable so after brainstorming with my husband, I came up with Sweetcorn Suzie. Personally, I'm a complete klutz. For example, while on holiday in Japan, I fell flat on my face, in slow motion, Mr. Bean style. It would have been comical if I hadn't ended up splitting my front tooth right through the root, grazed my lip...
